Sandra's Story (Specialist Support Work, Manchester)

Sandra and her adult daughter, Amy, who has learning and physical disabilities, lost their privately rented home following a no-fault eviction. Unable to afford rising rents, they were placed in a hotel-style room away from their support networks, without privacy or cooking facilities. The room was also reached by stairs that Amy struggled to manage.

Working alongside Sandra, Justlife helped her navigate housing applications and advocated for more suitable accommodation. The team also connected with Amy’s Social Worker to identify local activities and reduce her isolation.

Sandra and Amy subsequently moved to temporary accommodation with separate bedrooms and their own kitchen. Sandra was overjoyed to cook a proper meal for them both. With more space, greater independence and help to stabilise their finances, they now have a stronger foundation while continuing to bid for a permanent home.
