How we help families during a difficult and uncertain time
Our 12-month pilot project provides intensive, trauma-informed support to families with children living in temporary accommodation across Brighton & Hove. We help families settle into their accommodation, access the advice and services they need, and rebuild their confidence. This could involve:
Providing practical essentials through move-in kits
Helping families understand their rights and responsibilities
Signposting and connecting families to relevant local services
Supporting parents to address difficulties affecting their family’s health, wellbeing or housing
Helping families navigate temporary accommodation and prepare for moving into a more permanent home
Alongside our direct work with families, we will use what we learn from the pilot to develop information packs for people entering temporary accommodation and training for frontline professionals. The learning will also inform our research and campaigning, helping us improve support for families and work towards a temporary accommodation system in which every stay is short, safe and healthy.
